The following South Dakota Communication/Language Arts standards
will be
addressed over the six sessions.
Eighth Grade Reading Standards
Students will evaluate the structural elements of plot
development and how conflicts are addressed
and resolved. (examples: subplots, parallel episodes)
Students will analyze the relationship between an author's style, literary form, and the intended influence on the reader.
Students will analyze how a work of literature reflects the heritage, traditions, attitudes, and beliefs of its author.
Students will compare/contrast literature from different eras or cultures which deal with similar situations or conflicts.
Eighth Grade Speaking Standard
Students will use appropriate non-verbal skills when speaking.
(example: eye contact, posture, gestures)
Students will use appropriate grammar and sentence structure in various speaking situations.
Eighth Grade Listening and Viewing Standards
Students will use listening skills in group settings to share
responsibility for a team project, set goals, choose solutions, monitor
progress, and meet goals.
Eighth Grade Writing Standards
Students will apply rules of grammar in written communication.
Students will analyze language techniques authors use to bring characters to life. (example: dialogues, action, physical description)
National Educational Technology Standards - Grade 6-8
Students will select and use appropriate tools and technology
resources to accomplish a variety of tasks and solve problems. (example:
assignments by e-mail)
Students will demonstrate an understanding of concepts underlying hardware, software, and connectivity, and of practical applications to learning and problem solving.
